Magician David Blaine faced the terrifying moment when he thought he had died onstage after attempting to catch a bullet in his mouth went sideways.

WARNING: Content of a disturbing nature ahead. The celebrity performed the stunt as part of his show at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas in 2017. The segment was shown in his TV show, Beyond Magic. David has only performed the stunt several times and says that friends now refuse to help him do it.

David Blaine tried to catch a bullet between his teeth

The performance involved the 43-year-old holding a metal cup between his teeth while wearing gumshields to protect the inside of his mouth. The rifle that contained the bullet was set up in front of him, and he held a cord to pull the trigger.

It only partly went as planned because although the bullet entered the cup, the bullet shattered David Blaine’s gum shield. The impact also caused the cup to lodge itself into the back of his throat, and he believed he had died for a moment. However, “the pain brought me back.”

He provided viewers of the show with a narration of the moment as it played out on screen. “Time just started to move really slow,” he explained. “When the bullet struck the cup, there was a high-pitched ringing in my ears and I felt an impact on the back of my throat.”

“I was sure the bullet went right through my head and that I was dead. Suddenly I became aware of the pain and it brought me back. At that moment I realized that the mouth guard had shattered again, and I was alive,” he continued.

“I committed to doing it live at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas for 20,000 people. The part that I didn’t really spend enough attention on was building a better mouth guard.”

Though his friends refuse to help him perform it anymore and it went wrong, David Blaine still wants to perform the bullet stunt.

Fans react to ‘mad’ stunt

“David Blaine gives me the f***ing creeps. The man just…. SHOT HIMSELF….. IN THE MOUTH….. WITH A THING TO CATCH THE BULLET…… He is my F***ING HERO.”

Someone penned: “What is David Blaine’s next stunt? Catching a bullet with your mouth is hard to top.”
