Russell Brand has opened up has candidly opened up about his short marriage to Katy Perry on the latest episode of “Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge” saying he was “disconnected” at the time.
The show sees survivalist Bear Grylls teaching his celebrity guests essential survival skills. In the openness, the two sat down for a candid convo as Russell got deep about the marriage.
Russell Brand calls Katy Perry an ‘amazing person’
Opening up to Bear Grylls, Russell Brand admitted he didn’t really start making a ‘proper living’ until his early 30’s when his Hollywood movies in the States kicked off.
Grylls then asked the 48-year-old when he was married to Katy, in which he responded:
“That was when I was sort of most in the public eye and working in America,” adding that “some aspects of [that time] were amazing.”
“She’s an amazing person. It was kind of incredible to live for a moment in that eye of the cyclone type aspect of fame.”
“Aside from my sort of feelings of affection for Katy, it’s a time that I remember has been a little bit chaotic and a bit for me… a little disconnected,” he added.
Russell has constantly spoken highly of his ex-partner, telling Wendy Williams in a former interview that he had “nothing but love for her”, calling it a “very wonderful time”.
The Teenage Dream singer described the relationship as a ‘tornado’
Speaking on the relationship back in 2020, Katy described it as a ‘tornado’.
In an interview with 60 Minutes Australia, the American Idol judge said:
“I was having great success at 23, 24, and 25 and then I met someone that was interesting and stimulating. It was just like a tornado, it was everything happening at once.”
The pair confirmed their relationship in 2009 when Perry was 25 and Brand was 34.
Russell Brand and Katy Perry’s relationship explored
The couple met in 2008 when the Teenage Dream singer was asked to film a short cameo for the movie, Get Him To The Greek, which Brand starred in.
They confirmed their relationship at the end of 2009, and by January 2010, the couple were engaged. The couple then tied the knot in October 2010, in a traditional Hindu ceremony in India.
However, just over a year, it was confirmed that the marriage was over. In July 2013, Perry confirmed she’d been broken up with via text.
