Former US soldier turned touring professional Greg Hanrahan proved his endurance yesterday when he completed his 98th outing in the Asian PGA's 100th tournament, the Macau Open.

The 42-year-old American, who is based in Thailand, missed sealing what would have been a magnificent century by skipping the 1995 Formosa Open and the following year's Guam Open.

Hanrahan, whose highest Order of Merit finish was 21st in 1995, was runner-up to compatriot Gerry Norquist in the 1995 Royal Perak Classic in Malaysia and partnered Tiger Woods in the final round of the 1997 Asian Honda Classic in Thailand, which was won by the current world number one.

'I really love to play tournament golf and keep returning for more - I cannot afford to miss any events,' said Hanrahan, who has been ranked in the top 60 every year since 1995. 'It has been very fulfilling - the formation of the Asian PGA was a huge boost to golf in this region.

'The highlight was playing with Tiger Woods in the final round in Thailand, where I stay, even though I slipped down the field.' Hanrahan signed off the Davidoff Tour's 100th event with a birdie four on the final hole yesterday to claim 25th spot in the Macau Open.

'That was a good way to finish the first 100 - that's the sort of thing that has kept me coming back for more,' said Hanrahan, who married his long-standing Thai girlfriend last week.
